Why should you workout as a Type 1 Diabetic ? (How to Start)

I've been a type 1 diabetic for the past 10 years of my life.

And I remember being so frustrated at not knowing how to do this thing called diabetes.

I remember the nights where I would lay down on my bed and wished I wouldn't wake up.

If you are a type 1 diabetic you probably have felt this before.

If you are new to this you will experience this.

I'm giving you the heads up and I'm not trying to be negative here;I'm being real.

I can start like that and play the victim game.... or ?

.....or I can do things differently? Why not?

Lets try…

We are all dealing with some type of shit. Let's be honest

We all have been confused, lost, wondering. At some point. Somedays im still lost. But i will keep showing up. I promise

We are all part of humanity which involves some type of suffering, in some way. Lets not go down that path.

But some of us have to deal with some shit and on top of that diabetes. Oh poor me…

And when I was diagnosed I spent a few weeks and months learning the basics of how to do this.

I didn't have another option.

If  you have been a type 1 for a while or you've been recently diagnosed I will not feel sorry for you.

If you want to play victim. Stop here and get out.

Why you should pick up a pair of dumbbells

Today I'm going to talk about why you should pick up a pair of dumbbells. Or lift weights. Same thing.

Why ? Because this is the best thing you can do to treat your diabetes. I can tell you this with confidence.

If you are still asking Why?

Let me tell you a secret the doctors don't tell you:

If you workout and you build muscle; your insulin sensitivity will improve so you will require less insulin and you will have better glucose levels after eating meals.

The food we eat (glucose) will have a place to go, where does it go ?

It goes directly to these muscles instead of just staying in the bloodstream and going nowhere.

This is why lifting weights improves insulin sensitivity.

Let me say it again:

Building muscle will help you by improving insulin sensitivity so you will require less insulin and you will have better glucose levels after eating meals.

I don't care if you have never picked up a pair of dumbbells.

IF YOU ARE A TYPE 1 DIABETIC IT IS IN YOUR BEST INTEREST TO BUILD MUSCLE AND LIFT WEIGHTS.

I'm going to talk about you moving your ass to a gym or out to somewhere where you can actually feel alive....

Are you getting my point? If you are, keep reading...

To not feel sweat dripping from your forehead while working out is to literally feel dead; at least to me.

That's how I see it. (sorry if you are dead... now?)

If you are at a job where you sweat all day… That's not what I'm talking about here. Pay attention.

Im talking about going to a gym and using weights that put resistance in your body.

I'm talking about exercising. Challenging your body.

If the problem is that you have never picked up a pair of dumbbells;

well, let me explain:

I can not… lol

Why don't you start ? At least try; no?

Can you pick up a dumbbell? Now ?

Practice makes perfect. Have you heard that ?

This is how you start to lift weights:

-Go to Youtube:

Type workouts 101? How to workout? Workout for beginners?.

There has to be millions of videos about workouts for beginner, intermediate and advanced.

Look for them…

Tutorial on working out?

Ask AI ? Google ?

Any excuses? …

-Download a Workout App

Right now there are workout apps for like 1$ per month. I've seen this before, I swear.

How about you get on one of these?

Try it at least for a week? Maybe 2 weeks ? Maybe 21 days ?

Try one, what's the worst that can happen ?

Why not ?

-Go to your local Gym

Yeah, go to your local gym and ask a trainer to train you for a month? 2 months?

Teach you the basics and then you start on your own ?

This is what I did. I had a trainer for a few months.

Then I started looking online for my own workouts and did them.

-Workout with a friend

Talk to a friend, partner, boyfriend. Anybody ?

Ask them to join you for a workout a few days a week ?

Hold each other accountable.

-Buy nice workout clothes

Yeah; try buying clothes you will feel good in when working out.

This does help. Comfortable clothes make working out easier?

Well I think they play a big role. Think about it.

Working out and sweating in uncomfortable clothes is not a really good idea…

-Ask a random guy/ girl at the gym if you can join them for a workout

Well this applies only if the person you are going to ask knows about what they are doing lol.

Seriously. I don't know if you are shy or not but I'm sure that if one day you can ask someone, hey; can I join you one day for a workout?

What's the worst that can happen? Or maybe ask them if there is any app or any trainer they can recommend ?

Im pretty sure they are willing to help.

So to close this letter:

-Go online and search for a workout for beginners.

-Get an app. For beginners ?

-Walk to your local gym and sign up.

-Call someone and workout together.

-Get some cool workout clothes.

-Ask someone at the gym anything about working out. (Hopefully to someone who looks fit and knows what they are doing)

-Start. Go to the gym.

-Next day, go again.

-Try it for at least a month ?

-You didn't like it ? Well at least you tried.

-Good.
